A Research Paper Published in Journal...

Branimir Bertoša, a researcher from the Chemistry Department, in collaboration with researchers from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology (Marijana Hranjec, Anja Beč, Patricia Debogović, Marija Kos), Ruđer Bošković Institute (Marija Mioč and Marijeta Kralj) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb (Kristina Starčević) has published the scientific paper Design, synthesis, biological evaluation and QSAR analysis of novel N-substituted benzimidazole derived carboxamides in Journal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry (IF = 5,051).

The focus of the paper is on antiproliferative and antioxidative activity of a group of carboxyamide derivates of N-supstituted benzimidazoles. Based on previous research, as well as on existing data, new compounds were designed and synthesized. Their antioxidative activity was measured using different tests, their antiproliferative activity were tested on various human carcinoma cell lines. Computational analyses of the structural features and measured activities enabled the identification of molecular properties that have the largest influence on antioxidative activity. The results presented in the paper present a basis for the design of novel compounds with increased activity compared to the existing ones.
