The shaded promenade was built as a logical continuation of the pedestrian bridge on Miramarska cesta built in 2015, which established a permanent pedestrian passage - "passage" from the Main Railway Station to Runjaninova Street and Savska Road, regardless of the opening hours of the Botanical Garden. The promenade is also the new southern fence of the Garden, a long pergola-shaped structure that will be used for planting a new large collection of climbers and climbers: from ornamental wisteria to botanically interesting species important for research and university teaching of botany at several Zagreb faculties.

It is the only new building in the Botanical Garden since the First World War, since the Garden is protected as part of the Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Croatia and the City of Zagreb ('Green Horseshoe') and the Monument of Park Architecture. However, this new pergola is also the successor of the old shady promenade, laubenganga or 'laube', as the old people of Zagreb called it, which was originally located around the ground floor until the 1920s.

The conceptual solution for the promenade was made by expert advisors - botanists of the Botanical Garden, together with architects and conservators with whom they have been cooperating for more than a decade on restoration projects of original buildings in the Garden, with continuous support and assistance from the City of Zagreb. The promenade was built by the company "Teh-gradnja" from Zagreb, selected in a public tender, and the price of the construction itself was a little more than three million kuna. The construction of the Promenade, 320 m long, consists of brick pillars with wooden arch beams and painted iron elements, and several skylights in the form of rest gazebos have been added, with a small gazebo in the middle of the building.
