Petra Schneider rođena je 1994. u Zagrebu. Godine 2017. završava diplomski studij geologije smjer Mineralogija i petrologija, a 2023. doktorski studij Geologija na Geološkom odsjeku Prirodoslovno-matematičkog fakulteta u Zagrebu.
Od 2018. zaposlena je kao asistentica, a od 2024. kao docentica na Mineraloško-petrografskom zavodu Geološkog odsjeka PMF-a. Sudjeluje u izvođenju nastave iz mineraloških i petroloških kolegija te terenske nastave. Dobitnica je nagrade Brdo za najboljeg asistenta na Geološkom odsjeku.
U sklopu međunarodnih razmjena (uključujući CEEPUS te Go Styria) i znanstvenih projekata usavršavala se u brojnim znanstvenim institucijama u inozemstvu kao što su Institut für Mineralogie und Kristallchemie (Universität Stuttgart), Institut für Erdwissenschaften (Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz), NAWI Graz Geozentrum (Technische Universität i Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz), Institut für Mineralogie und Kristallographie (Universität Wien), Štátny geologický ústav Dionýza Štúra (Bratislava), Comenius University (Bratislava), Earth Science Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Banská Bystrica).
U znanstvenim istraživanjima bavi se petrologijom, geokemijom i geokronologijom magmatskih i metamorfnih stijena, s naglaskom na istraživanja akcesornih minerala i istraživanja njihovih inkluzija spektroskopskim metodama. Dobivene rezultate koristi za rekonstrukciju geoloških i s time povezanih geodinamskih procesa.
Članica je European Geoscience Union (EGU) i Hrvatskog geološkog društva.
