Description:
COURSE GOALS: The main goal of this course is to teach students the basic principles used in writing seminars and scientific and scholarly articles by using LaTex, MS Word, and also to use Excel tables.

LEARNING OUTCOMES AT THE LEVEL OF THE PROGRAMME:
Upon completing the degree, students will be able to:
2. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

4.1. communicate effectively with pupils and colleagues;

5.1. search for and use professional literature as well as any other sources of relevant information;

LEARNING OUTCOMES SPECIFIC FOR THE COURSE:
Upon completing the course, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate knowledge of basic elements that comprise a scientific and/or scholar article;
2. use LaTex and MS Word for writing scientific and scholar articles;
3. us MS Excel to process data and plot charts and graphs;
4. find information on the internet that is needed and/or required to write a given article or perform a certain operational task on the internet.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course description for every week is as follows:
1. Getting acquainted with Linux OS, and the way scientists communicate in their community by using scientific papers;
2. Basic components of a scientific or scholar work (title, authors, affiliation, abstract, text, images equations, literature). Getting acquainted with LaTeX.
3. Difference between form and content. Selection of the topic for the article (every student picks one topic), and beginning of work on the article. Learn how to write mathematical formulae in LaTeX.
4. Using and describing figures. Learning how to use different formats, jpg, png, eps, and convert from one to another. Work on the article.
5. Using literature in scientific work. Basic principles of choosing and citing literature. Work on the article.
6. Finalizing the article in LaTeX and grading the article.
7. Starting to work on the Windows OS. Repetition: basic constituents of scientific work. Work on the article in MS word.
8. Work on the article in MS Word, learn how to use equations in MS Word.
9. Work on the article in MS Word, learn how to use figures in MS Word.
10. Work on the article in MS Word, learn how to cite and write literature in MS Word.
11. Finalizing the article in MS Word and grading the article.
12. Starting with Excel. Basic operations with tables. Sum, conditional sum, basic formulae.
13. Plotting graphs and charts, histograms, lines, basic programming in Excel.
14. Fitting in Excel, exporting figures for LaTeX and MS Word, and using in texts.
15. Written test of knowledge of Excel; repetition and conclusion; emphasize importance of continuous learning and keeping track of the developments in modern software for writing and using tables.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:
Students are required to do an article in MS Word and LaTeX, and finally to take the test in Excel.

GRADING AND ASSESSING THE WORK OF STUDENTS:
We grade article written in LaTeX, Word, and colloquium in Excel. Those three grades comprise the final grade.
