Description:
COURSE GOALS: The main goal of the course Physics School Experiments Laboratory 1 is to enable students to interactively conduct experiments in inquiry based physics teaching in elementary and high school. Students will learn to prepare and conduct experiments by integrating physics content knowledge and experimental skills with pedagogical knowledge and interactive teaching techniques.

LEARNING OUTCOMES AT THE LEVEL OF THE PROGRAMME:
1. Knowledge and understanding
1.1. demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamental laws of classical and modern physics
1.3. demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the most important physics theories (logical and mathematical structure, experimental support, described physical phenomena)
1.6. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of new insights into contemporary physics and chemistry teaching methods and strategies
1.8. integrate physics and chemistry content knowledge with knowledge of pedagogy, psychology, didactics and teaching methods courses
2. Applying knowledge and understanding
2.1. identify and describe important aspects of a particular physical phenomenon or problem
2.4. recognize and follow the logic of arguments, evaluate the adequacy of arguments and construct well supported arguments
2.6. prepare and perform classroom physics and chemistry experiments and interpret the results of observation
4. Communication skills
4.1. communicate effectively with pupils and colleagues
4.2. present complex ideas clearly and concisely
5. Learning skills
5.1. search for and use professional literature as well as any other sources of relevant information

LEARNING OUTCOMES SPECIFIC FOR THE COURSE:
1. state types of school experiments and describe their role and implementation in physics teaching,
2. prepare and conduct a series of physics school experiments in elementary and high school,
3. conduct physical measurements and report and interpret the results,
4. use interactive teaching methods in conducting and discussing school experiments,
5. integrate school experiments with other methods of inquiry based physics teaching.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
1) (4 periods) Introductory instructions about the work in the practicum and introductory lecture on experiments in physics teaching.
2) (4 periods) Geometrical optics.
3) (4 periods) Particle structure of matter. Molecular phenomena.
4) (4 periods) Electrostatics. Simple electrical circuits.
5) (4 periods) Introduction of the basic kinematic concepts.

14) (4 periods) Seminars: Students perform selected experiments as teachers
15) (4 periods) Seminars: Students perform selected experiments as teachers

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:
Students are required to regularly attend the laboratory (at least 80% of tutorials), to actively participate in conducting and discussing experiments, to analyze measurement data, and to give a seminar.

GRADING AND ASSESSING THE WORK OF STUDENTS:
Students take two tests during semester or written exam during examination period. To pass each test or written exam, students have to obtain at least 50% of points. The final grade is formed after the oral exam based on the work in the laboratory (2 ECTS credits), tests/ written exam (2 ECTS credits) and oral exam (2 ECTS credits).
