Researcher from the Division of Physical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry Tin Klačić won the award for the best oral presentation entitled Supporting Anion and Heating Effect on Properties of Dry Layer-by-layer Assemblies Containing Poly(allylamine hydrochloride) and Poly(acrylic acid) at the recently concluded international scientific meeting European Student Colloid Conference which was held in Szeged.

From June 26th to 30th, 2022, the European Student Colloid Conference (ESC), organized by the European Colloid & Interface Society (ECIS) and the Hungarian Chemical Society (MKE), was held in the Hungarian city of Szeged. It was the 18th ESC meeting in a row intended for master’s and Ph.D. students whose research topic is related to colloidal and interfacial chemistry. Fifty-seven students from seventeen European countries participated in the meeting. Tin Klačić won the prize of the expert committee for his oral presentation entitled Supporting Anion and Heating Effect on Properties of Dry Layer-by-layer Assemblies Containing Poly(allylamine hydrochloride) and Poly(acrylic acid).

In the oral presentation, the results of current research about the influence of background salt type on the preparation and properties of poly(allylamine hydrochloride)/poly(acrylic acid) polyelectrolyte multilayer, conducted by researchers from the Department of Chemistry Tin Klačić and Davor Kovačević and Klemen Bohinc from the University of Ljubljana, was presented. Also, it was presented how the ion-specific effect can be suppressed by moderate heating of polyelectrolyte multilayers.

The research was performed as a part of the Croatian-Slovenian bilateral research project Modulation of fruit polyphenolic profile by sustainable postharvest physical treatments funded by the Croatian Science Foundation.
