Division of Analytical Chemistry

At the Division of Analytical Chemistry, methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis of a wide range of analytes are developed and validated. Both classical and instrumental techniques are employed, including X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), laser ablation ICP-MS (LA-ICP-MS), UV-Vis spectroscopy, spectrofluorimetry, IR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, and high- and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC/UHPLC). Atomic spectrometric methods are developed for the quantitative determination of chemical composition in natural samples and advanced materials. Conformational and structural analyses are carried out on small biologically active molecules and supramolecular systems, and their interactions with biological targets (nucleic acids, proteins, ribosomes) are studied with the aim of designing new bioactive compounds. For these purposes, surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), one- and two-dimensional NMR techniques, and hyphenated liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) are used. Methods are also developed for the identification and characterization of complex mixtures and real samples (food, beverages, dietary supplements, biomass, petroleum products) using hyphenated systems such as LC-SPE-NMR, 2D LC-HRMS, and ICP-MS. Samples are analyzed both in the solid state and in solution.
