All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Development of interactive teaching skills competencies in prospective physics teachers; deepening of conceptual understanding of basic physics concepts with emphasis on their didactical aspects; familiarizing students with the results of physics education research and findings of modern cognitive sciences, and with their use in physics teaching. This course is followed by and strongly linked with the course Methodology of physics teaching 2.

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
The topics listed below are also discussed in seminar, where students give their presentations.
Selected physics topics are treated from educational point of view, through application of educational principles that were introduced in the preceding course (Methods of teaching physics 1) and with emphasis on important role of experiments in teaching.
1. Physics curriculum for elementary school, gymnasiums and vocational schools.
2. Newton's laws. Force. Comparison with Aristotelian views on force and motion.
3. Passive forces: elastic force, string tension, normal force, friction.
4. Circular motion. Centripetal force. Noninertial reference frames. Inertial forces.
5. Energy. Conservation laws.
6. Geocentric and heliocentric system: historical development of ideas. Kepler's laws. Newton's law of gravitation. 7. Ideal gas laws. Kinetic model of gas. Particulate nature of matter.
8. First and second law of thermodynamics.
9. Electric charge, electric force. Electric field. Electric potential.
10. Simple DC circuits.
11. Magnetic phenomena. Lorentz force. Electromagnetic induction.
12. Harmonic oscillations. Waves in elastic medium. Electromagnetic waves.
13. Laws of geometrical optics. Diffraction and interference of light.
14. Continous and line spectra. Models of atom. Development of ideas about atomic nucleus.
15. Basic principles of quantum mechanics.
16. Elementary particles. Big Bang theory.
