Zlatko Mihaljević was born on 21 January 1966 in Varaždin, where he attended primary and secondary school. After the secondary school, he enrolled in the study of biology at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb and graduated in 1991. He received his Master degree and PhD degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Zagreb in 1994 and 1999, respectively. Since 1991 has been participating in undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate teaching at the Faculty of Science, University in Zagreb. Dr Mihaljević is currently Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, University of Zagreb and teaches courses in General ecology, Ecology, Animal ecology, Biology of freshwater pollution, Freshwater ecology. Up to now he was mentor for 3 dissertations, 2 master’s theses and 19 diploma theses. His research focuses on the ecology of aquatic ecosystems with emphasis on macroinvertebrates and human impacts on freshwaters. He has been Principal Investigator on two research projects from the Croatian Ministry of Science and Sports and 4 research projects financed by the Croatian Waters and Krka National Park. He has published 50 scientific papers, 24 of them cited in Current Contents. He also published a number of professional and popular articles. Dr Mihaljević presented his work as co-author on 37 international and 7 national scientific conferences. He peer-reviewed 15 scientific papers for international journals and one university text book, respectively. From 2010 – 2013 he was editorial board member of two international journals. Dr Mihaljevic was also member of scientific committee of 4th and 5th Croatian Water Conference with international participation
