Biography

Juraj Nikolić was born on 18th of March 1992. and finished primary and secondary education in Križevci. In 2010. starts his Undergradute Study in Chemistry at Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. He receives his bachelors degree in 2013. and immediately enlists in Graduate Studies in Chemistry, Research programme, Major fields of Inorganic and Organic chemistry at the same institution. He defends his Masters Thesis titled "Mechanochemical and aging synthesis of metaloorganic polymers of cobalt, nickel, copper and zinc with 5-aminoisophthalic acid" (original in Croatian) under the mentorship of prof. dr. sc. Dominik Cinčić in 2015.

In 2016. he starts working at Ruđer Bošković Institute in Laboratory for Functional Materials as an assistant on a  Croatian Science Foundation research project "Electrical Transport in Glasses and Glass-ceramics" and starts his Doctoral Studies in Chemistry, Major field of Inorganic and structural chemistry at Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. He defends his Doctoral Thesis "New insights into electrical transport mechanisms in ion-polaron glasses" (original in Croatian) mentored by prof. dr. sc. Andrea Moguš-Milanković in 2020.

From 2021 to 2023, he worked at the Department of Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, as a postdoctoral researcher on a bilateral Slovenian-Croatian project funded by the Croatian Science Foundation titled "Modulation of fruit polyphenolic profile by sustainable postharvest physical treatments", led by Prof. Davor Kovačević, Ph.D. (Croatia) and Prof. Klemen Bohinc, Ph.D. (Slovenia). Since 2023, he has been working on the research project titled "Physical chemistry of processes at mineral/(poly)electrolyte solution interface", led by Prof. Tajana Begović, Ph.D.

To date, J. Nikolić has published 10 scientific papers, participated in 30 domestic and international conferences with poster and oral presentations, and attended 3 international schools. He has co-supervised 2 master's theses. During his time at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, he received four Annual Awards for the Best Scientific Papers of the Ruđer Bošković Institute in different categories in 2019 and 2020. In addition to his scientific work, he actively participates in the promotion of science and the Department of Chemistry through events such as Chemistry Open Day (Day and Night of the Faculty of Science).

J. Nikolić's scientific interests are focused on the development and characterization of various inorganic and organic solid-state materials. During his Ph.D., he extensively studied the relationship between the structure and electrical properties of zinc phosphate glasses and glass-ceramics with varying amounts of alkali and transition metal oxides. Additionally, during his time at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, he gained experience with the electrical properties of various thin films, ionic liquids, and ionogels. His current research involves the preparation and characterization of polyelectrolyte multilayers and the adsorption of polyelectrolytes on various mineral surfaces.
