Description:
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of the course Organic chemistry 2 are: understanding the basic concepts of organic chemistry with the aim of training students to teach organic chemistry in primary and secondary school; getting to know the structural characteristics, physical and chemical properties of the most important groups of organic compounds and understanding the relationship between their structure and reactivity.

COURSE CONTENT:

LECTURES AND SEMINARS (TOPICS)
1) Aldehydes and ketones: structure and physical properties;
2) Aldehydes and ketones: nucleophilic addition to the carbonyl group; Synthesis of aldehydes and ketones;
3) Carboxylic acids and derivatives: structure and physical properties;
4) Carboxylic acids and derivatives: nucleophilic substitution at the carbonyl group; Synthesis of carboxylic acids;
5) Condensation reactions (the aldol condensation and the ester condensation);
6) Substitutions at the ?-C atoms (the acetoacetic ester synthesis and the malonic ester synthesis);
7) Conjugates systems: electrophilic and nucleophilic addition;
8) Aromatic compounds: structure and physical properties; Aromaticity;
9) Aromatic compounds: electrophilic and nucleophilic aromatic substitution;
10) Amines: structure, physical and chemical properties;
11) Carbohydrates: classification, structure, stereochemistry, physical and chemical properties;
12) Amino acids and proteins: structure, stereochemistry, physical and chemical properties;
13) Lipides: classification, physical and chemical properties of triglycerides;
14) Polymers: types of organic polymers, mechanisms of polymerization and application of polymers;
15) Simple organic chemistry experiments and their application in teaching chemistry at school.
