Dajana Barišić began her scientific career with research in the field of supramolecular chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, under the mentorship of Academician Vladislav Tomišić. She investigated the complexation and protonation properties of anionic receptors and characterized complex systems of chemical equilibria in solution.
During her doctoral studies and work at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, she focused on the field of green chemistry, or mechanochemistry. She investigated the mechanisms of chemical reactions in the solid state using in situ and ex situ methods and studied synthesis and catalysis in the solid state and solution, with an emphasis on palladium-mediated mechanochemical C–H bond activation and functionalization.
After obtaining her doctorate, she worked as a senior scientist in a preclinical contract research organization (CRO), where she was involved in the synthesis of new chemical entities with potential application as drugs within oncology preclinical development projects.
She is currently employed as a senior assistant at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, where she participates in research within the project Thermodynamic, spectroscopic and structural aspects of calixarene coordination reactions (CalixCore – IP-2024-05-3012).
She is the co-author of seventeen scientific papers indexed in WoS and Scopus, numerous conference abstracts and the editor-in-chief of two books of abstracts. She is the recipient of six Ruđer Bošković Institute Annual Awards for scientific papers published in top journals (2017–2023), the Rector's Award for Individual Scientific Work (2016) and two Special Rector's Awards for the field of natural sciences (2011–2016), as well as the Chemistry Department Award for Student Scientific Research (2016) etc.
