Scientific Research Activities: The scientific activity is focused on the thermodynamic and kinetic investigation of processes in solution, primarily concerning the complexation reactions of macrocyclic ligands (cyclopeptides and calixarenes) with inorganic and organic ions. Current research focuses on linear and cyclic peptides with a small number of subunits and their ion-receptor properties. Additionally, methods for the cyclization of linear peptides are explored, utilizing template anions for the preorganization of the peptide chain in solution.
An integrated approach is applied in these studies, employing spectrophotometric, fluorimetric, CD (circular dichroism), microcalorimetric, and NMR titrations, as well as molecular dynamics simulations, to provide a detailed macroscopic and microscopic description of the complexation process. Thermodynamic research also includes the study of the complexation of polycationic organic receptors with deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules.
A significant contribution has been made to the construction of an adiabatic calorimeter for dissolving solids and the development of a new method for processing calorimetric data. Kinetic studies are directed toward the spectroscopic investigation of the kinetics and mechanisms of the complexation of organic ligands with transition metal cations in solution.
