Description:
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Students will be introduced to the theoretical background of basic bioinformatics techniques. More advanced methods will be introduced through examples

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
probabilistic models in molecular biology, extreme value theory; statistical analysis of biological sequences and families of sequences; BLAST algorithm, hidden Markov models; simulated annealing (SA) and expectation maximization algorithm (EM)
