Description:
COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Students will be introduced to basic bioinformatics techniques. More advanced techniques will be introduced through examples, with emphasis on algorithmic, computational and numerical aspects.

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS:
pairwise alignment, substitution matrices; pairwise alignment algorithms; hidden Markov models, Viterbi algorithm and variants; forward, backward algorithm, Baum-Welch optimization; phylogenetic trees, Neighbour - joining algorithm
