The Department of Molecular Biology was established in 1989 with the goal to improve biological research on the molecular level and start a study program in molecular biology. From 2004 the Department of Molecular Biology is located in Horvatovac 102a. Research at the Department of Molecular Biology is performed with around ten scientific research projects. Molecular biological research is done on plant and animal models, as well as intensive research in the fields of biomedicine and bioinformatics. Within the Department of Molecular Biology, there is also the Division of Biology’s Electronic Microscopy Laboratory. The Department of Molecular Biology is responsible for classes in the undergraduate and graduate programmes of Molecular Biology, as well as general classes like Cell Biology and Genetics that are required in all programs of the Division of Biology. Along with our professor researchers, different scientific institutions also take part in the classes, primarily from the Ruđer Bošković Institute.
