COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The objective of the course Ecology of birds in biology classes is teaching the students recognizing the most common bird species in Croatia and to provide an introduction to bird monitoring and conservation.

COURSE CONTENT:

LECTURES
1) What is ornithology? History of ornithology. Notable ornithologists. The diversity and systematics of birds;
2) Basics of the morphology and anatomy of birds;
3) Diversity of Croatian birds;
4) Adaptations of birds to diverse habitats;
5) Annual cycles in birds;
6) Bird migration;
7) Breeding systems of birds;
8) Nesting and care of young in birds;
9) Bird vocalizations;
10) Bird intelligence;
11) Social behaviour of birds;
12) Methods of bird research;
13) Population dynamics of birds;
14) Conservation of birds;
15) Birds in popular culture.
