COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of seminar is to qualify students for independent and project (collaborator - group) work: investigation, discovering and search of literature (using all available mediums - printed and electronic, especially on Internet), for preparing seminar lectures in the written form (by using computers) and for oral lecturing (presentation) on the given subject. Particularly, students will get introduced to biographies of notable world and Croat mathematicians. Where possible, students will also be required to read and try to comprehend original works of mathematicians whose biographies they will be studying. The topics of student projects will be chosen in a way to enable students, future mathematics teachers, to recognize individuality and to open students to questions, as fundamental principles in mathematics teaching on all educational levels, to get basic information about history of mathematics and to accept historical background of scientific achievements as a valuable tool in teaching mathematics.
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SYLLABUS: Seminar - Biographies of Women and Men in Mathematics will be realized as a project education, estimating all its levels and lawfulness. Each project team will be composted of 3 students, and the project problem will be elaborated and presented it in written and oral form to other visitors of Seminar. The subjects are as follows:
