All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Basic knowledge and understanding of the natural sciences (Physics) underlying the study of environmental science.
Ability to use simple quantitative physical methods and to apply them to environmental science problems.
Basic awareness of physical principles of relevant state-of-the-art technologies and their application in environmental science.
Knowledge of the common terminology and nomenclature and the use of bibliography in physics.
Understanding of physical concepts of environmental science problems and the feasibility of their solution.
Basic ability to solve numerical problems using computer and non-computer based techniques.

Dimensions and units. Force. Kepler and Newton laws of motion. Statics and dynamics. Inertia, momentum, work and energy. Equilibrium. Universal gravity.
Fields. Gravity-driven geological processes. Satellite Gravimetry. Tides.
Waves and acoustics physics. Sea waves. Sound. Ultrasound imaging. Earth waves.
Optics. Reflection and refraction. Interference. Polarization. Diffraction. Spectroscopy.
Atomic structure. Particles. Atoms. Radioactivity and dating. Age of Earth. Ionising radiation. Lasers. Fluorescence imaging and spectroscopy. Luminescence.
Electricity and magnetism. Electromagnetic radiation. Heat and heat flow in the environment. Structure and dynamics of the atmosphere.
