ECTS: 7.0
Lecturers in charge: prof. dr. sc. Damir Bosnar
Lecturers: prof. dr. sc. Damir Bosnar - Exercises
Take exam: Studomat
Load:

1. komponenta

Lecture typeTotal
Lectures 30
Exercises 15
* Load is given in academic hour (1 academic hour = 45 minutes)
Description:
COURSE GOALS: Through lectures students will be introduced in the experimental and theoretical investigations of the proton and neutron structures. Nucleons are building blocks of nuclei and this knowledge will serve as a basis for the investigations of nuclear structures and properties.
LEARNING OUTCOMES AT THE LEVEL OF THE PROGRAMME:
Upon completing the degree, students will be able to:
* demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the most important physics theories (logical and mathematical structure, experimental support, described physical phenomena)
* describe the state of the art in - at least- one of the presently active physics specialities
* evaluate clearly the orders of magnitude in situations which are physically different, but show analogies, thus allowing the use of known solutions in new problems;
* adapt available models to new experimental data
* search for and use physical and other technical literature, as well as any other sources of information relevant to research work and technical project development (good knowledge of technical English is required)
* remain informed of new developments and methods and provide professional advice on their possible range and applications
LEARNING OUTCOMES SPECIFIC FOR THE COURSE:
Upon completing the course, students will be able to:
* understand the most important experiments in the field of investigations of proton and neutron structures
* understand basic theoretical concepts in this fields
* acquire basis for further investigations of nuclear structures and properties starting from fundamental building elements such as quarks and gluons

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Quark-gluon structure of the nucleons. Strong interactions, electro-weak interactions. Electromagnetic-structure of the nucleons: elastic electron scattering, inelastic electron scattering. Investigations of structure of nucleons using weak probes. Deep inelastic scattering. Properties of the nucleons from the QCD perspective and chiral symmetry. Many-body systems with strong interactions.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS: Participations at lectures and execution of given assignment
GRADING AND ASSESSING THE WORK OF STUDENTS: Evaluation of written and oral exam.
