LECTURES
Marine life in the ocean: in pelagic realm, along continental edges, in hydrothermal vents, coral reefs, estuaries and mangroves. Structural and functional characteristics of the marine ecosystem. Role of marine organisms in regulation of earth's climate and biogeochemical cycles. Oceanographic and ecological regulators of the distribution of marine organisms: temperature, salinity, nutrients, light, winds, currents, frontal systems, microbial processes, mutual influences among organisms and their impact on the environment. Horizontal and vertical transport in ocean. Exchange of gases. Distribution in trophic gradient. Methods on the research vessel and in the laboratory. Use of computer and graphic program in the presentation of spatial and temporal distribution of oceanographic factors and organisms.
PRACTICUM AND SEMINAR
