All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
COURSE CONTENT, LECTURES
1. Hydrologic cycle, water supply and use.
2. Human impact on water resources: pollution, reservoirs and dams, agriculture, fishery, sport and recreation.
3. Water pollution: types of pollutants.
4. Toxic substances and biological effects of toxins.
5. Bioindicators.
6. Effects of organic pollution on freshwater ecosystems.
7. Biological pollution.
8. Nuclear power plants and thermal pollution.
9. Hydromorphological degradation of streams.
10. Benthic invertebrates as water quality indicators.
11. General effects of eutrophication; zooplankton and phytoplankton.
12. EU Water framework directive.
13. Ecological status assessment.
14. Chemical status assessment.
15. Synthesis and repetition.

SEMINARS
Include written essay on proposed subjects and presentation.
