Course objectives are to introduce students to the possibilities that use of vivary provide in biology teaching and encourage them to learn actively and think critically.

Vivaristics - term and definition. Types of vivaries.
Animals and plants in vivaristics.
Methods of breeding and maintenance of animals and plants in vivaries.
How to make and use aquarium (marine and freshwater).
How to make and use terarium.
Use of vivaries in biology teaching.
Experiments which can be done using vivaries in biology teaching.
In the framework of exercises students will make different types of vivaries. In the framework of seminars they will design their own simple experiments which can be performed in biology teaching using vivaries. Visit to the institutions which professionally use vivaries is also envisaged in the scope of course (i.e. insectaria and teraria in Zagreb Zoo). Literature for the seminars is consisted of recent review and expert papers dealing with vivaries.
