Methods of gemstone testing. Common gemstones. Rare gemstones. Organic gemstones. Diamond ? grading and imitations. Synthetic gemstones. Imitiations, composites and gemstone treatments. Cutting of gemstones and types of cuts. Presentation of student projects.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge and understanding of the physical and chemical properties of gem materials
Knowledge of the common terminology and nomenclature of gem materials
Ability to identify the main gem materials
