Description:
The nature and scope of environmental mineralogy. Research methods in environmental mineralogy. Minerals and soil developments. Mineralogy of marine sediments. The influence of microbes on minerals. Aerosols in the atmosphere. Mineralogy of mine wastes. Suitability of minerals for environmental remediation purposes. Mineralogy in nuclear waste management. Mineralogy and cultural heritage. Mineralogy and human health.

Learning outcomes:

Awareness and understanding of the temporal and spatial dimensions in Earth processes
Understanding the need of a rational use of earth resources.
Knowledge and understanding of the complex nature of interactions within the geosphere .
Awareness of the applications and responsibilities of Geology and its role in society including its environmental aspects.
