All teaching activities will be held in Croatian. However, foreign students in mixed groups will have the opportunity to attend additional office hours with the lecturer and teaching assistants in English to help master the course materials. Additionally, the lecturer will refer foreign students to the corresponding literature in English, as well as give them the possibility of taking the associated exams in English.

Description:
Methods of historical geology. Formation of the atmosphere, sea, oceanic and continental crust. Structure of cratons and shields. The origin of life. Life in the Proterozoic. Proterozoic glaciations. Life in the Cambrian and Ordovician. Paleogeography of the Cambrian and Ordovician. Life in the Silurian and Devonian. Paleogeography of the Silurian and Devonian. Life in the Carboniferous and Permian. Paleogeography of the Carboniferous and Permian. Carboniferous and Permian sediment succession in the Dinarides. Life and paleogeography of the Triassic. Triassic sediment succession in the Dinarides. Life and paleogeography of the Jurassic. Jurassic sediment succession in the Dinarides. Life and paleogeography of the Cretaceous. Cretaceous sediment succession in the Dinarides. Life in the Paleogene and Neogene. Paleogeography and climate of the Paleogene and Neogene. Paleogene sediment succession in the Dinarides. Neogene sediment succession in the Paratethys region.

Learning outcomes: Understanding how the geological record can be used to interpret the history of the Earth; Understanding the main patterns of life development; Understanding climate patterns in the present and the geological past; Understanding how plate tectonics affects the evolution of continents and sedimentation; Getting to know the geological structure of the Republic of Croatia.
