The student will acquire:
* Insight into the concepts and market offer of computer tools and information systems for various aspects and issues of CAD systems usage;
* Understanding the basics of product design and development processes;
* The overview of contemporary methods and theoretical backgrounds in design science.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Lectures per weeks (15 weeks in total):
1. Elements of computer graphics, coordinate systems in CAD software. AutoCAD commands for creating the basic elements of 2D geometry.
2. Commands and operations for manipulation of drawing elements: mirror, copy, translate, rotate, chamfer, fillet, trim, extend.
3. Concept of layers - defining and application, line width and type, etc.
4. Dimensioning and hatching, drawing of examples in AutoCAD.
5. Exercises in AutoCAD - examples which include all previously learned commands and procedures.
7. Concept of 3D CAD systems - feature based modelling.
8. Feature based modelling theory, parametric sketches, parametric modelling.
9. Procedures and parameters of particular features, exercises on simple and more complex models - practical work in SolidWorks.
10. Procedure for making orthogonal projections from 3D models.
12. Manipulation with multiple drawings, dimensioning, associativity between model and drawings.
13. Creating of assemblies from sets of parts.
15. Theoretical basis of design science (methodical design). Design process phases, design process characteristics, classification of design tasks, examples of design tasks.
Exercises, seminars and partial exams are following lectures by content.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:
Students must attend all lectures and exercises. They must solve 50% of examples on exercises successfully.

GRADING AND ASSESSING THE WORK OF STUDENTS:
Grading and assessing the work of students during the semester:
* Two practical exams - creating of 2D drawing and 3D CAD model according to given template.
* Home works
Grading at the end of semester:
* final written exam
Contributions to the final grade:
* 10% of the grade is carried by the results of the home works,
* 50% of the grade is carried by the results of the two practical exams,
* the written exam carries 40% of the grade.
