In agreement with the students enrolled in the course, the lecturer will provide as many teaching elements in English as possible, or in both English and Croatian for mixed groups (i.e., bilingual teaching materials and bilingual exams). Level 2 also includes additional individual consultations with foreign students (as in Level 1) for the teaching elements which will be held in Croatian.

Description:
LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Analyse natural base definition of national parks and protected areas, based on IUCN classification, on the examples from Croatia and globally.
2. Apply legislation on Croatian national parks.
3. Discuss the possibilities of preserving nature in the most important Croatian and world national parks.
4. Analyse directions of monitoring and research in protected areas.
5. Analyse the possibilities of sustainable development on protected areas.
6. Develop educational projects for popularization of nature conservation in protected areas.

COURSE CONTENT

LECTURES

1. History of national parks origin and development of nature protection in the world.
2. Primary role of national parks, basic phenomena for protection and classification of protected area according to IUCN classification.
3. Legislative instruments in Croatian national parks.
4. - 7. Croatian national parks (NP Paklenica, NP Plitvička jezera, NP Sjeverni Velebit, NP Risnjak, NP Mljet, NP Brijuni, NP Kornati, NP Krka).
8. - 11. National parks of Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Australia.
12. Protection of plant and animal species in national parks. Monitoring and research in protected areas, reintroduction of endangered animal species.
13. Visiting and recreation in national parks.
14. Coexistence of national parks and local community, sustainable development of the area.
15. Education and popularisation activities of nature protection in protected areas.
