CEEPUS – GEOREGNET network
The Central European Exchange Program for University Studies (CEEPUS) is an exchange programme for students and professors in Central and Southeast Europe, centred in Vienna. The member states of the CEEPUS are: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Czech Republic, Croatia, Kosovo, Hungary, Moldavia, Poland, Romania, North Macedonia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Serbia. The CEEPUS has several dozen networks and the PMF Department of Geography has been included through the GEOREGNET network since the academic year 2006/07.
The network GEOREGNET was established in 2006 at the initiative of Professor Lučka Lorber of the University in Maribor. The first members of GEOREGNET were the geography departments of the Universities of Maribor, Zagreb, Preshovo and Olomouc. Already the following academic year, geographers from the University of Krakow joined.
The GEOREGNET network currently includes the Geography Departments from the Universities of Graz, Sarajevo, Mostar, Prague, Olomouc, Brno, Zagreb, Zadar, Pécs, Skopje, Krakow, Oradea, Novi Sad, Ljubljana, Maribor, Koper, Preshovo, Nitra and Prishtina. The chief coordinator of the GEOREGNET network was Professor Lučka Lorber from the University of Maribor from the academic year 2006/07 to 2018/19, and in the academic year 2019/20, this position was taken over by Professor Pavel Ptaček from the University in Brno. Through its activities, the GEOREGNET network has often been evaluated with the highest grades in the whole CEEPUS programme.
In the past 15 academic years, from 2006/07 to 2020.21, the Department of Geography has awarded a total of 200 student and 18 professor scholarships, for exchanges of a duration from one to four months for students, and from one to four weeks for professors. Summer schools have been held each year at the end of August or beginning of September in a two-week duration, most often with the participation of two of our students and occasionally one professor.
The third GEOREGNET CEEPUS Summer School was held at the PMF Department of Geography in 2011. To date, our students and professors have visited a total of 15 universities in 10 countries: Maribor, Ljubljana and Koper (Slovenia), Olomouc, Brno and Prague (Czech Republic), Preshov and Nitra (Slovakia), Krakow (Poland), Graz (Austria), Pécs (Hungary), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Novi Sad (Serbia), Oradea (Romania) and Skopje (North Macedonia). The PMF Department of Geography has hosted a total of 36 foreign students and 13 professors in the period from 2006 to 2020. The students and professors came from 12 universities in nine countries: Maribor, Ljubljana and Koper (Slovenia), Olomouc and Prague (Czech Republic), Preshov (Slovakia), Krakow (Poland), Graz (Austria), Pécs (Hungary), Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Novi Sad (Serbia) and Prishtina (Kosovo).
