Professor Goran Muić published the first part of a comprehensive series on algebraic geometry "Fundamentals of Algebraic Geometry I: Introduction to Harthorne and Šafarevič"

Professor Goran Muić published the first part of a comprehensive series on algebraic geometry "Fundamentals of Algebraic Geometry I: Introduction to Harthorne and Šafarevič" (published by Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences, 2026, https://dizbi.hazu.hr/?pr=i&id=2748392). In this capital work, the first in the Croatian language, on 743 pages (and about fifty pages of introduction), the author develops in detail the theory of projective and quasi-projective manifolds over an algebraically closed field together with most of the very advanced apparatus from commutative algebra required in the book. This work is an introduction to the classics of I.R. Šafarevič: Basic Algebraic Geometry and R. Hartshorne's Algebraic Geometry, but its scope far exceeds the scope of the introduction and includes the necessary algebraic apparatus and corrects certain errors and inaccuracies in these works. The book could be useful for students of higher years of mathematics studies or postgraduate studies of mathematics and researchers in the field of algebraic geometry and related fields such as algebra, representation theory, number theory and projective geometry. The sequel to this book, Fundamentals of Algebraic Geometry II: Geometry of Schemes and Fundamentals of Cohomology, 886 pages, has also been completed and is in preparation for publication.

ENROLL IN MATHEMATICS

Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, will welcome you again this year for one-day event "Day and night at Faculty of Science'' scheduled for Friday, March 23, 2021.

Inspired by upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, this year we present you scientific olympic circles! Olympic Games celebrate and honor fastest, strongest, most persistant, most courageus athletes.

Following that principle, 7 Departments of Faculty of Science will compete for your attention by offering you interesting and educational information (lectures, workshops, interactive exhibitions/rooms) on fastest animals, most dangerous phenomena, biggest mysteries and riddles and scientific facts and explanations behind it all.

As we are adjusting to new conditions regarding ongoing pandemic, whole event will be available on website: https://daninoc.pmf.unizg.hr/. All materials will be available starting March 23, 2021.

Let the games begin!
