Professor Goran Muić published the first part of a comprehensive series on algebraic geometry "Fundamentals of Algebraic Geometry I: Introduction to Harthorne and Šafarevič"

Professor Goran Muić published the first part of a comprehensive series on algebraic geometry "Fundamentals of Algebraic Geometry I: Introduction to Harthorne and Šafarevič" (published by Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences, 2026, https://dizbi.hazu.hr/?pr=i&id=2748392). In this capital work, the first in the Croatian language, on 743 pages (and about fifty pages of introduction), the author develops in detail the theory of projective and quasi-projective manifolds over an algebraically closed field together with most of the very advanced apparatus from commutative algebra required in the book. This work is an introduction to the classics of I.R. Šafarevič: Basic Algebraic Geometry and R. Hartshorne's Algebraic Geometry, but its scope far exceeds the scope of the introduction and includes the necessary algebraic apparatus and corrects certain errors and inaccuracies in these works. The book could be useful for students of higher years of mathematics studies or postgraduate studies of mathematics and researchers in the field of algebraic geometry and related fields such as algebra, representation theory, number theory and projective geometry. The sequel to this book, Fundamentals of Algebraic Geometry II: Geometry of Schemes and Fundamentals of Cohomology, 886 pages, has also been completed and is in preparation for publication.

ENROLL IN MATHEMATICS

UNIC Mathematics Workshop 2023

The UNIC Mathematics Workshop 2023 aims at bringing together mathematicians from several universities under the umbrella of the UNIC network. The workshop then seeks to provide space for collaboration and cooperation among participating mathematicians to build a network and advance institutional capacities. Within the context of the workshop, participants will present possible avenues to develop joint study programs and possible joint PhD supervision, among other forms of collaboration. The workshop serves to foster collaborative research efforts that can benefit the wider mathematical community. It will feature a presentation of the future study program Theoretical Mathematics, that is under discussion, several mathematical lectures on diverse topics, a discussion table, and possibilities for networking. The workshop is open to mathematicians from all UNIC institutions who are interested in the future study program or fostering collaboration with UNIC colleagues, as well as to researchers and PhD students who will benefit from the workshop scientific program.
