About project BREEMECO

The main objective of the BREEMECO project is to “model” and explain biologically induced changes in composition of faunal assemblages and sedimentological proxies of Early to Middle Eocene shallow to deep marine sediments from the Dinaridic foreland basin. This requires findings of coherent shelf to basin paleoceanographic profiles that produced limestone-hemipelagic/pelagic facies transition, in order to constrain water depths for allogenetic and autochthonous facies, and, as by-product, to discover the way uplifted Dinarides and other uplifted structures in vicinity interfered in the depositional pattern. The age attribution is crucial, asking for high-resolution sampling, so the areas of study have to be carefully selected. To create the model, we propose to study the limestones and flysch from Istria (Pićan – Pazin area), Northern Adriatic region (between Bribir and Selce) and central Dalmatian region (Hvar island, Pelješac peninsula).
