Doktorski studij fizike je poslijediplomski sveučilišni studij čiji je nositelj Prirodoslovno-matematički fakultet (PMF) Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.

Izvoditelji studija: Fizički i Geofizički odsjeci PMF-a

Development and characterization of a Total IBA system based on Heavy Ion PIXE spectroscopy

In ion beam laboratories around the world, the simultaneous use of two or more Ion Beam Analysis (IBA) techniques, so called ‘total IBA’, is well adopted and very often used in the case of proton excitation. The most implemented combination is the simultaneous application of Particle Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) and Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy (RBS) techniques. The potential for synergetic applications of PIXE with other IBA techniques that use heavy ions for excitation such as Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis (ERDA) or Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry using MeV heavy ions (MeV SIMS) is yet to be exploited. This is mainly due to a sparse database of heavy ion induced X-ray production cross sections (XPCS), and also relays the fact that many laboratories do not use heavy ion based IBA techniques.

In the present study, cross sections for several mid and heavy elements were measured with C, F, Si, Ti, Cu, Ag and I heavy ions in the 0.2 – 1.0 (MeV/u) ion energy range. The measured cross sections were used to develop a semi-empirical model for interpolating ‘missing’ data within the same projectile-target range, using existing experimental and theoretical proton cross sections. Results obtained by carrying out PIXE measurements in coincidence with Time of Flight-ERDA (TOF-ERDA) are presented. PIXE measurements were very beneficial in resolving the elemental composition of mid-Z elements that could not be resolved by TOF ERDA due to spectrometer limited mass resolution. By using PIXE together with MeV SIMS it was possible to determine the elemental as well as molecular composition at the same sample area for ink and paint samples.

Seminar će se održati u utorak 5. prosinca 2023. godine u 10:00 sati u predavaonici F-201 Fizičkog odsjeka Prirodoslovno-matematičkog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu.

Pozivaju se studenti doktorskog studija Fizike, smjer Nuklearna fizika, da prisustvuju seminaru, ako nisu spriječeni.
